Villages cover approximately 8 million kilometers of ice-free land cover, and are home to 2.6 billion people. That's 40% of the worlds population! They are found mainly in the non-mountainous areas of Asia, but also quite common in Europe and parts of Africa and the United States. These anthromes are where rural populations are the densest and the agriculture is most extensive. The food grown in these villages are generally sold and consumed locally. This anthrome is broken down into 6 categories of anthromes based on the how the land is used.
